    Default usps question

The version of Zen Cart I am using is 1.3.9d. I'm having trouble with the usps module. I was playing around with the module before I realized I need to register for the webtools. I registered with them and received a password and username. I plugged in my username in the id place no place for password? and filled in the other required information. I don't understand what I am suppose to do. do I need to reinstall the usps module & how would I do that? Do I have to do something with the test or production? I called usps number and I was asking questions and the guy just said we dont provide zen cart help. The usps email said to test on 2 links but when i tried they were bad links. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

I'm going through the same thing. I called to have it put into production. Received an email with 2 links which didn't work. Any suggestions?

I don't recall there being any need to do anything with links in their emails.
If you follow the tutorial steps, ignoring the emailed links, it should work.

same heres what i got the first email:

Your Web Tools User ID, shown above, is required to test and integrate USPS Web Tools APIs. With this ID, you may begin sending calls to the test server. Depending on the API, the address to the test server is either http://testing.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPITest.dll or https://secure.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPITest.dll. Use this information in combination with your User ID and your XML string to send a request to the USPS servers. For more details, refer to the programming guides (located at http://www.usps.com/webtools) for the specific API you are integrating.

A sample test request would look like: "http://testing.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPITest.dll?API=[API_Name]&XML=[XML_String_containing_User_ID]"

When you have completed your testing, email the USPS Internet Customer Care Center (ICCC). They will switch your profile to allow you access to the production server and will provide you with the production URLs.

    and the second email:

Congratulations on completing your testing using the U.S. Postal
Service's Web Tools Application Program Interfaces (APIs). Your
profile has been updated to allow you access to the Production Servers.

The URLs you will use for the Production Servers are:
    http://production.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPI.dll
    https://secure.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPI.dll

Profiles that are inactive for four years will be permanently deleted
    without notice.
what are we suppose to do from here?

Are we supposed to actually be able to test the installation and API requests? The USPS installation went fine, got the USER ID and everything. In Zen Cart, red bar at top says USPS is in testing mode. But when I try to test the Shipping Esimator, the USPS is not a choice of shipping methods, and no testing occurs.

I'm wondering if this is because we are not actually supposed to be sending the test API requests to the USPS server (supposed to only wait for USPS switch to production), OR if I am doing something wrong while trying to test. Thank you.

The only reason you would need to use USPS in Test mode is if you were a developer working on new features or a new integration. Since Zen Cart has already done the integration for you, you don't need Test mode.
If you're having specific problems, it would be appropriate to discuss those in a thread pertinent to those specifics.

Thanks, DrByte. I get it. Was just wondering if Test mode was for us and now it makes sense that we should go straight to Production if all is well w/ install. That funky red bar for testing mode had me second guessing myself. I switch to Prod and wait for USPS to flip the switch on their end. They were closed this late at night. Thanks again!
