Since upgrading we have had a few minor niggles this is one of those.
On the old site 1.3.8 we had Manufacturers name turned off from the config section. It is still turned off but the name is still showing on the product listing.

And 0 is set as NOT TO SHOW.

That is not the product listing page...it is the product info page
For that page
admin > catalog > product type > general > at far right select edit layout > Show Manufacturer > set to false
