    Default Authorize.net AIM Problem

Somewhere along the line, it appears that the authorize.net AIM module got messed up. Possibly while upgrading Zen Cart? This is what happened...

It worked fine for two years, then a customer tried placing an order and received the following message:

"Your order has been received. Thank you for your business! - Your credit card could not be authorized for this reason. Please correct the information and try again or contact us for further assistance."

So, because it says "please try again", the customer did, and she literally tried again 10 times, charging her card 10 times, almost $500 in charges. This created a huge problem for us, and made one customer very unhappy, now not wanting to have anything to do with us.

I don't even know where to begin to look to try to find how to fix this. The only thing I can say is what has changed recently. The cart is currently Zen Cart v1.3.9e and we are in the process of upgrading to v1.3.9g.

Is it possible that something got messed up with the AIM module during an upgrade?

We also started using the Advanced Fraud Protection Suite from Authorize.net, is there something that needs to be configured specially for this module?

    Any advice is appreciated...

"Your order has been received. Thank you for your business!" does not come from anything inside core Zen Cart files.

I'd have to see AIM logs to understand what exactly has happened in your store.

Response Code 4 means "This Transaction is being held for review."
And Reason Code 253 means: "The transaction was accepted and was authorized, but is being held for merchant review. The merchant may customize the customer response in the Merchant Interface"

Zen Cart didn't accept the response and complete the order because the "4" indicates that there's something incomplete about it.

I suggest that you rework your review criteria (maybe your Advanced Fraud Protection settings too?) to prevent such holds from happening without good reason. Check and see what rules have triggered those "holds", and see whether they're too aggressive. Remember: holds can help protect you, but holds also make more administrative work for you.
