USPS down today

I've read the tutorial and have set up the USPS Module in the Administration section, but I'm getting a yellow "not configured" circle in the admin section, and an error on the 1st step of Checking out. First I'll give you the error and then I'll give you the information as I have it in the shopping cart. Maybe I'm doing something wrong...

Now, When I set the Shipping Zone to "Pennsylvania", the circle goes to yellow, not configured. When I set it to "None", it goes green. Also, I have no idea what "machinable" means. Maybe this is what I'm doing wrong?

I am having the same problem. I think there might be an issue with USPS, I don't think it's on your end.

It looks like the USPS site is down. I'm not getting shipping quotes for any of my sites.

my checkout page does not load because of USPS being down. I have version 1.3.7 and Fast Checkout module.

You might turn on UPS for now ...

Per USPS API customer service (800-344-7779) states they hope to have their shipping API's up in about an hour. It is now 12:30 PM Central.

1:55pm and still nothing. I spoke with them earlier and they wouldn't give me an estimate.

sure, my UPS is on and USPS is off .. it works now, but it would be good to have some sort of timeout in the code instead of waiting forever for a server. Any suggestions?
