Is this possible/reasonable? No eCommerce?

Hello,

This may be a totally ridiculous sounding question but is there a way to use Zen Cart solely for a content (products/items) management system without the eCommerce component?

The reason I ask is because I presented a client with a nice Zen Cart template in which I planned to implement his items and open an online store for him only to find out now he really just wants more of a brochure site for his items as it's more of a local business. He really likes the template layout and organizational aspect of the items.

Would this just be a template modification issue or can you disable eCommerce functionality in the admin panel?

I am new to Zen Cart and was just curious. I also do realize that this essentially defeats the purpose of what Zen Cart is designed to do, lol.

Anyway, just looking for some insight as the best way to go about this or other ways to accomplish it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! :)

Not at all. As Kobra has hinted, support for this is built right into Zen Cart's core.
