Thanks DomainDude, however my issue is not with renaming but organization on my site itself. It will be just a wee bit more manual work than I had hoped for.

I hate to beat this to death. After renaming and organizing my 1000's of images to abcde_1.jpg, abcde_2.jpg, abcde_3.jpg etc. and uploading them to the same folder /images/ctg2 I still don't have additional images displaying. I've turned them on in the admin and I have checked for override files. All of my base images are showing up.
