    Thanks for replying cactusrunning?
    Add in what text?
Where might I find the configure.php files in the zc full file set?
Did you upgrade from 1.3.8 to 1.3.9h?
Im finding it a complete nightmare
HA! I have been trying to get the upgrade to work for 2 weeks now all day and night, and am getting nowhere. I am so frustrated and am not getting many answers to my questions. I am almost thinking Fantastico (which they are totally against using for an auto-upgrade) may be worth it versus spending anymore time on this.

Your configure.php files are in zencart>admin>includes>configure.php and zencart>includes>configure.php. Pull the data from your previous website version and paste the text into your downloaded 1.3.9h full file set folder.

Have you downloaded onto your computer the 1.3.9h full file set folder yet?

Ive heard of Fantastico but dont know what it is or does.

Yes Ive downloaded the full 1.3.9h file set onto my computer and onto the server in a folder called 'demo' as they suggested. Havent installed it yet though because of the warning ...... dont do this its NOT an upgrade!
Have you used Zen Cart long? I set it up 6 months ago and have liked it till now. For the last 3 days I could cry with frustration!

I've been using it for a couple of years, but this is my first upgrade. I am with you on the frustration.

I am not too familiar with Fantastico, but I know it automatically upgrades the files/tables for you... it then causes some problems, but at least there are forums on how to get the problems fixed!!

Ok just add in the text from your current website configure files into the configure files in the zc full file set you uploaded into your demo folder. If the configure files don't even exist, just copy them from your current zc>includes>configure.php and zc>admin>includes>configure.php. My full file set had the configure.php files present, but there was no text inside of them.

After you do this try refreshing your upgrade url link and see if the Upgrade Database option appears.

Please don't listen to any advice by cactusrunning, as he doesn't have a clue what he's doing. If he had followed the advice I (or Kobra) gave him correctly then his problems would have been resolved days ago.

To get the 'upgrade' button to appear you have to upload the zc_install folder for 1.3.9h to the earlier version of Zen Cart you have installed on your hosting.

You also have to make your two configure.php files writeable. I don't know why this is required, as the upgrade doesn't touch the configure.php files. But there you go!

I have the zc_install folder on my earlier version of zc. When it wasn't working I added in my configure.php text and the option to upgrade came up. (Kobra couldn't help figure out why the upgrade option wasn't coming up)

Yes the configure files do need to be writable.

But I haven't been given enough advice to have my problem solved days ago. I am getting the three same error messages after clicking upgrade. Kobra is trying to tell me these only come up after the upgrade is complete, but mine are preventing the upgrade from actually happening. Until I can resolve how to fix these table errors, I am stuck with the current version I have.

You've already hijacked two threads started by other people and not yourself, and have been advised by me not to interfere in a third thread started by someone else.

If you persist then I will report your postings to a moderator and ask them to take action against you.

You have been told by me how to complete your upgrade, in minute detail, but you just don't listen

Now go away and stop interfering in this thread.

    Thanks for the tips Vger.
Why doesn't it tell you this on the Upgrade instructions? to get the 'upgrade' button to appear you have to upload the zc_install folder for 1.3.9h to the earlier version of Zen Cart you have installed on your hosting

Surely if I do this it will Upgrade my current shop immediately? I havent checked any of the files for differences yet. So far I've only got as far as putting the Upgrade file onto my server in public.html/demo. I have my current Zen Cart shop in public.html/shop.

On the Upgrade instructions it says...
Unzip a copy of the new version of Zen Cart™, upload it to your webserver into a "demo" folder,
    I've done that bit

    then it goes on...
and install the new version into a separate database, and include the Demo products. This is just for a place for you to play with the new version and get used to its new features. These can be deleted after conversion is complete.
    I've created a new database.
It's at this point that I get stuck... On the Install page it says..

Ready to Install? (This will wipe any existing data. You are NOT in Upgrade mode!!!)
I am upgrading from 1.3.8a so need to do the full Upgrade.

What the "Upgrade" option does is to upgrade your database to the latest version. So once you have created the new database you import your old database into it. You edit the two configure.php files so that you can connect to that database, and then you go to the new version of zc_install and you'll get the "Upgrade" button.

You only get the "Upgrade" button when zc_install detects that you have an old version of a Zen Cart database installed.

What this does is to allow you to keep all your old data whilst upgrading to the latest version.

I think Im getting to understand it know. Thanks very much for your help.
So far Ive copied the old database, renamed it then added it to the new upgrade. One thing though, Ive noticed that the new database is 1.16MB but the old database is 1.86MB, even though I copied them. Surely they should be the same?

Ive found the 2 includes/configure.php files in my current shop.
Ive found both in my new demo shop but they are both empty. Probably due to the fact that I didnt make them writable before putting them there .
Could I just copy the old ones and reconfigure them to the new demo site or is there a better way of doing this? How do I make the two configure.php files writeable?

You should download and edit your two old configure.php files to add the name of the folder to the pathways and add the new db info, and then overwrite the demo configure.php files with the edited files from the old install.
