What does renaming admin folder affect?

Hi,

I used softaculous to upgrade zen cart, thereafter a new zcadmin folder is added along side the existing admin folder.

both zcadmin and admin were accessible and seem to work ok (as an admin control panel) although both contents (1.3.9h and 1.3.8 respectively) are clearly differrent.

Then without knowing the intricacies of renaming admin folders, changed directly and only the folder names:

zc_admin --> admin
admin --> admin_old

And then, the new admin folder warns me of a folder rename before can access. I followed the link provided https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/index.php?article=33 and changed paths (from zc_admin to admin) but it DOES NOT WORK. I have ensured all text in red have been followed.

So I gave up and renamed back into the old names
admin --> zc_admin
admin_old ---> admin

And to my horror, the old admin also does not work anymore. It loads without the warning message but does not let you log in. It just appear to "refresh" when login is clicked. At this time, both configure.php are identical. (i did not change anything in the old admin).

Finally, I decided to just change paths in zc_admin/configure.php back to zc_admin (from admin, using the "article=33" link above) and luckily now, zc_admin works, but admin still does not work.

CONCLUSION:
Changing the configure.php causes the folder named "admin" to be unusable. Is there any place that gets changed as well as the configure.php get changed, such that in consistencies will create these problems?

SORRY for the long post, but I had to reiterate the whole process to be sure.

zc_admin is the new name for admin in the most recent version. You do not want the old admin folder to exist any more. You should rename the zc_admin folder to something hard for outsiders to guess, for a layer of security against hackers.
