Transfering clients

Hi, I recently made a fresch instal with zencart 1.3.9f and put in some mods.
Like rewards point module and dual pricing.

Now I was wundering if its possible to transfer al my clients and their information from my old database to the new one.

Hopefully somebody can tell me how and what to do to transfer this information.

Sure ? because i want to have the clients from two different shops (i used to work with two shops)
And i reorganized and cleaned up the assortiment in the new shop

That depends what you mean by customer information ...

Assuming that you're talking about importing them from another Zen Cart database, then the customer information is spread across three tables: customers, customers_info and address_book.

As long as these three tables are moved together, you can normally move them to your new database. You would need to remember to take account of any database table prefix (e.g. "zen_") used on the old or new database, and depending on the version of Zen Cart that your exporting from, there may be table structure changes to be applied before the imported tables work properly with your new version.

A less technical approach is to import the whole database, as suggested by Kobra and then run the upgrade feature in Zen Cart's zc_install to apply and changes to the database structure, but that should be done before you start applying any new mods that may also make changes to the structure - otherwise you will need to re-do the database part of their installation.

Ah. OK. Our posts crossed. What you're wanting to do is to merge two sets of clients.

That's more tricky as you would need to ensure that the customer IDs across the three tables are consistent and not duplicated. So you would need to increase the IDs from the second set of customer information to something that wouldn't clash with the first set, and reset the autoincrement value on the database table.

Are there likely to be customers in both sets of data?

Pfeww that is going to be tricky for me I think.

The two sets of clients are in two tottaly different shops. I think i wil skip one set for minimum risc.
Or maybe i can import them first into an excel file to give them all a new Customers ID?

Also the only thing extra what I need to import is the information from the reward point module. Otherwise they will loose their points earned. And that will give angry faces i think

Beware: If you're changing customer numbers be VERY sure that you don't use numbers that already exist in your orders table for customers who've already bought in your store. Otherwise you'll let wrong customers see purchase history from other customers ... which would result in much angrier faces.

I Think i will only transfer one set of clients and not the orders only the information.
