Emails not getting sent

I am currently testing a new setup of zen cart and emails to both the site admin and the customer are being sent sporadically. Some confirmation emails are getting through and some not. Any ideas?

Did the email bounced back to you? If not, it could be the email went into their spam box.

I tried changing the email settings to SMTP and this seemed to jog the missing emails previously sent by PHP to arrive in a big bunch.

So I think it is working but slowly.

I don't use the SMTP I use the PHP instead
