Default Google Checkout in the pipeline for Australian Merchants

According to an article posted in the Melboure HeraldSun newspaper today "GOOGLE Australia is considering a plan to take on payments giants such as Visa, Mastercard and B-Pay in the booming online payments market".

This would be a welcome competition to PayPal for Aussie zenners.

Hopefully Google will be using their already established module which has been available to US and UK zenners for some time.

    Hello Frank,
I too have been awaiting for Google Checkout to arrive but we are almost 2 years down the track and still nothing.
I think it will be a long time and it is not down to Google not wanting to arrive on our doorstep but the Big 4 (Australian Banks for you non Aussies) making sure they are not allowed to enter this market.
We all know what has happened this week with the announcement of the profit results.

The potential loss of income from this highly profitable business area of credit card transactions for the banks ensures we will still be waiting.

Paypal would have been enough to give them a shake

    Thanks Dave

Yep, protectionism at it's best. They can't stop "Which Bank" increasing their rates above the Reserve's increase, so what hope do we have that the toothless tiger (ACCC) puts a halt on them, let alone allowing someone else to get a bite of the cherry.

Then again, Google is a pretty big outfit and if they see a $ or 2 they will keep plugging away.

Wait and see, one day even us Aussies may be blessed by some more competition

Totally Agree Frank, I am about to turn off the CC system in our site/s in favour of Paypal.
Why? We will save around $70.00 odd per month plus Transaction fee's. Paypal offers an upfront service with the fee taken out within the transaction. Running Cost Zilch per month.
Consumers are comfortable with PP and it offers dispute resolution if there is an argument between the site and the customer.

    Bring on Google Checkout
