    Default Tranfering one Zen Cart site to another!

    I have a LIVE working Zen Cart site which I need to apply an update to, I've set up a testing server so I don't inter fear with the live site but can anyone explain the procedure I need to go through to apply this update?

    I'm guessing I need to install a fresh zen cart to the testing server then upload the LIVE backup database to it!

    Can anyone direct me to a link or explain how to achieve this!

    Regards,
    FTD

    You're right on target.
    1. Create a database for your test environment.
    2. Install Zen Cart in the test environment and run the install.
    3. In your webmaster panel (probably CPanel) use phpMyAdmin to backup your database (export) and restore it to your test environment (import)
    4. You may need to run zc_install again on the test environment to upgrade the database.

    I think that's it. I'm about to do something similar and I seem to remember doing it that way before earlier upgrades.

    phpMyAdmin using the import option. phpMyAdmin will have to be pointing to the new database when import is selected.

    Hello,

    I am creating a test site (1.3.8a) to test the upgrade process to 1.3.9h before I attempt it on the live site.

    I have copied all the exisiting files from the live site to a test directory, created a new database, re-run install with the new database details and now have a working test site.

    I have completed an export of the live site database and am now attempting an import to the test database from my phpmyadmin console and am getting the following error;

    #1007 - Can't create database 'db346806542'; database exists .

    What am I missing or doing wrong, do I need to change something in the SQL export file to get it to work?

    All it is is the new database needs to be a different name to the old, as the old one still exists, and you will have to edit both configure.php files (admin and catalog) to make sure they look at the new database name. Simple as that.
