help question Random / Custom Order ID

    Hi all,

First I would like to say I already searched the forum for mods / hacks and nothing camed up. All I find is old and not explained. I like the idea of getting your Order ID's customised, the default way shows Order #405 #406 and so on and a great customised ID would be 20101111-0001 or just random numbers each time a customer place a order. Why? Just because no one like to show how many orders you got from all the time you store is running.

And when you see just only for example 'Order #44' this makes the customer think 'Uhhhh just 44 orders? what the hell is happening with that store..?'. This makes the people think you're trying to scam them and so on (I know that's not applied to all people but all of us like to see how a business is doing and what's the best way to see? just taking a look at their order numbers).

I already tested the Improved Order Number for Zen Cart by ModYourZencart but this is too old and is not working anymore under 1.3.9.

Maybe I forget something and there's already something that can make this, if so, just tell me and I'll be very happy.

Note: English is not my natural language and I'm not American nor British so, If you don't like it, just put your hand on your screen
No one will remain alive forever.

Default Re: Random / Custom Order ID

The order numbers are auto-incremented in the database. This just means that the next one is one more than the last one. This is kind of just how the database works.

But you can change where they start by editing one of the orders in the database. If you make an existing order number to 2010001 then the next order number that is created will be 2010002.

You can edit an existing order in the database by using phpMyAdmin or a similar tool. There are lots of tutorials about how to do that on-line.

It has to do with the database rather than Zen Cart.
