    Default Local PC Windows Development Suggestions?

    Hello Zen Cart Forum,

    I am about to embark on seeing whether I can develop webpages with their shopping cart (Zen Cart) on my local PC. I currently develop on the ISP's server, which is fine (absolutely), but I wouldn't mind developing on my local PC. I would like to ask of thing I should consider and know before doing so.

    My local environment;

    - Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.
    - IIS 7.5
    - PHP 5.2.14 (Downloaded not installed yet)
    - MySql 5.1.53 (Downloaded not installed yet)
    - Zen Cart 1.3.9h (Downloaded not installed yet)

    Any considerations of the installations of these programs? After completing development, are there considerations when uploading to the ISP's server given thus far its' always been a Linux server? Like connection strings to the Database, etc...

    Any info is very much appreciated, and I hope its' possible.

    Thanks and regards,
    - BotRot

    Pages do not exist in the normal sense....it is mostly adjusting the text diplayed and adding your graphics
    My local environment;

    - Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.
    - IIS 7.5
    - PHP 5.2.14 (Downloaded not installed yet)
    - MySql 5.1.53 (Downloaded not installed yet)
    - Zen Cart 1.3.9h (Downloaded not installed yet)
    I would get one of the packages
    XAMPP
    WAMPP
    Easy php
    Makes a local development environment easier

    After completing development, are there considerations when uploading to the ISP's server given thus far its' always been a Linux server?

    At Kuroi we use Xampp (has the advantage that we can use it on any platform and we do, Win Vista, Win 7, Mac OSX and Linux Unbuntu). But most importantly, it gives us an Linux environment that is similar to that on our servers, even on Windows machines. As a result we've eliminated the problems that can sometime occur when developments tested under Windows are transferred to Linux.

    That it pre-packages Apache, MySQL and PHP is also rather useful ... no need to install those yourself.

    The only downside is that it doesn't install CURL on Windows, so you can't easily test payment modules that require this. But often you need the server's IP address for anyway.

    Hello kuroi,

    Thanks for the tip, after reading all the webpages a Google "Xampp vs Wamp" search, I shall download and use Xampp.
