Add batteries to shopping cart

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I did a search and could not find anything similar. I would like to know if it is possible to add a product to the shopping cart automatically when another product is selected. To make myself clear, I am selling products that require batteries. Currently I have the batteries set up as attributes, but on my product listing page this looks messy as the products with attributes do not have a buy now button and the products without attributes do. I was wondering if there is a way for the customer to add the attribute (batteries) at the shopping cart page? I hope this makes sense, wasn't really sure how to word it.
