Always Show sub categories

Many posts, solutions, all either old or do not work for 1.3.9h.
What is needed:
on index page, categories are showing with subcategories showing also. The toggle switch in admin layout settings only shows subcategories when the main category is clicked. On this page proposing a mod called "uncollapsed category tree", the link to the mod is a 404, the post is 5 yrs old... I just installed this mod called category list box (page here), it doesn't do anything, the categories are left untouched.

Is there a mod which will simply expand the subcategories in the cat side box on the main page and all subsequent pages - so the categories AND the subcategories are always showing? (I do not want products to show in the sidebox...)

this works for 1.3.9 i just did it. the old expanded list and category list downloads did not work for me. email me if you have any questions. [email protected]

The original link to the Uncollapsed Categories Tree mod doesn't work, but the mod is still on his site. Go to http://www.held-im-ruhestand.de/soft...art-categories to find it.
