Adding attributes

I am still quite a newbie with zen cart I know how to add attributes to items but am wondering how I can add it to some of my other items here is what I need:

say they order a 10 pack of a certain item is it possible to have them be able to choose 10 different colours and/ or scent combinations if they wanted 10 differant ones or can I only have them choose one colour / scent ?

I also need the same thing with a different item say they order a 10 pack (or whatever number they order) is it possible for them to say 2 X blue , 4 X green etc but only up to the number that they purchase.

ALso would adding attributes like these be much more trickier than adding standard atributes or can it be done using the standard attributes if so how would i do it.
