Free Gift

I am going to run a magazine advert and want to track how many customers purchase from my site after seeing the advert.
So I thought I could include a coupon number in the advert that entitles them to a free gift (if they spend over a certain amount).
Is there a way of applying a coupon number and you get a free gift?
I know I can offer them a discount but I thought a gift would be nicer.
Is it possible?

Yes the "Dangling Carrot" is very close to what I want except I only want certain customers to be able to use it. If it could be linked to a coupon that would be very good. Any ideas if I can achieve that?
