red flag i click HOME at any point, i am loggd out

This is the closest open thread i could find to something i have noticed with my setup.

I create a basic user account and then log in. No problem i can look around and add items to basket etc. However if i click the 'home' button (as some people always do rather than simply choose from the category ladder) and it logs me out. So i click login and my basket has been saved but if i click home it logs me out again.

I'm only concerned about this because years of experience tell me the Home button is viewed as a failsafe and almost a knee-jerk click for many people regardless of there being simpler navigation to the left ;)

Any ideas what might be causing this and a solution other than removing the 'home' button as im sure it shouldn't do that.

    Version 1.3.9h
    Original install, not upgraded
Addons - newsletter subscribe and shopping cart show totals

Error as before, having logged in, i can add items to basket and use the left navigation categories fine, but if i click HOME at any point, the basket and checkout links disappear and if i click account or try to add something to basket it asks me to login. When i do so, my previously added items are still in basket and i can add more, but again clicking HOME logs me out.

I can't imagine its a session timeout as it doesn't log me out based on time spent on site, just from clicking home.
As i said in first post, many users have a knee-jerk reaction to use 'home' buttons regardless of clear and simple navigation links at the side, so i want to remove this odd behaviour of the home button to ensure customers dont consider the site to be broken/sub-standard and leave.

Ajeh is correct: you're losing your session ...
And that's because your site isn't setting session cookies at all. It's not even setting them "wrong". It's just not setting them at all.

You can see proof of it in two ways:
    a) every time you click a link on your store it's including zenid=xxxxxxxxxxxx --- This is normal on "first" click, but then all subsequent clicks should not have that because a cookie has been set
    b) if you inspect cookies after visiting your site you'll see that none exist for your site

Further, if you manually set the cookie to the zenid value set in the URL, things work properly.

So, you've got something amuck with your session handling on your store/server.

    Thanks for the response.

Any ideas what the problem might be with the store? I have no problems with sessions and cookies on other sites on the same server.

Is there some feature within the admin that i would need to change (or may already have done to cause the problem)? Is there a Zen download that would solve this problem?

I saw the auto-login thing but dont really want to be storing people's details in cookies.

    Thanks Again

    Hi,

Its almost certainly something you need to speak to your host about.

In fact looking at the headers etc. the cookie path is being set to

    /cgi-sys

which definitely looks like a hosting problem.
