    Default Sessions?

Hi everyone, what do all the options in the sessions configurations mean? Help? Thank you.

I'm not trying to be a smartass, but if you click on the 'i' symbol in the 'action' column of the configuration/sessions page you should see a line or two of text that explains what the setting does.

I find them mostly self explanitory, as I'm sure you will too. Those options that you are unsure of are best left at the default settings.

If you are not happy with this explanation/answer then please be a little more specific with your question. IE, exactly which option(s) need more/better explanation?

    Cheers

    Hi Rod,

    Thanks for your response.

You're not being a smartass just giving it to me straight right?

Well I see the small descriptions on the Sessions configurations, but they're vague. I guess if you're familiar with the terms then it would make sense.

I guess I'm looking for more of a guide on what is affected when you set these options. For example, the pros/cons of forcing cookies, validating IP addresses, SSL session, user agent, host conversion, etc.

Just trying to get my site secure and prepared for hacks. Thank you.

A very good rule here it to leave everything at their default values.

As for a guide on what is affected with each of the options, there is probably a very good text file around somewhere that has all the details in one place (but after 30seconds of looking I figured it isn't a task I should be doing) :-)

I will state that almost all of the options are NOT zencart specific, they affect the way the server and clients/browsers interact with each other, so a google search on each of the items of interest will provide you with far more information than you'll ever need.

I expect most of what you'll read will go over your head as it is generally of use/interest to developers only, and as I've said, the default settings are set for optimum perfomance and security (ok, I didn't say that exactly) so only spend time on it if you have nothing more important to do :-)

Most people would have looked at those settings once, and said to themselves, "I'm outa here", never to have looked at them again. :-)

    Cheers
    Rod
