Try going into Admin->Configuration->GZip Compression, and set it to 0 instead of 1.

I also thought that it was the content of an image, but i have forgotten to have enabled gzip compression some weeks ago.
I'd like to upgrade from 1.3.8b to 1.3.9., is it a painfull thing as i suppose, or it could be instead take it more easy ? Are there any changes in template format as i'm using a custom template ?
Is 1.3.9 a more safe version of ZenCart ?
