    Default Installing a Template

I have successfully installed Zen onto our domain and currently have the basic classic template.

I've downloaded some of the free ones from here, but can not find details of how to load/download the templates.

If someone could advise or post a link it would be very much appreciated.

If the template has been designed properly and the files relating to it have been properly located in their folders, it is usually just a case of sending (via FTP), the template folders and their files, to your server.

You need to (in your FTP program) just ensure that you start the FTP process with the two panes showing matching directory levels.

Otherwise you will port the folders/files to the incorrect level on the server.

Once the folders/files have been properly sent to your server (and are thus properly located in the folder/file structure of your ZC installation), you login to your admin and under tools choose template selection.

Then, you click the EDIT pane and select the new template you just uploaded.

You will then need to reset Layout Boxes, so also in tools choose Layout Boxes Controller, and when you get there scroll down until you see the RESET button. Click it.

I've followed the instructions below, however can't get pass 2.

Uploading the file via FTP is fine as a zip file, when you click on it to unpack it just uploads it back again.

    1. Can it not be unpacked first and then copied over to the correct file?

    2. what is the correct location?

Sorry to be asking what is probably basic question, but this is all new.

    Thanks

    1. Backup all the files and database.
    2. Upload the Template package (zip file) to the root directory of your Zen Cart installation (for example: www.yourdomain.com/yourzencartstore/)
    3. Unpack the Template package.
    4. Log in to the admin area.
    5. Go to the Tools -> Template Selection.
    6. Click on the 'Classic Contemporary Green' template name.
    7. Select 'BlackPureFree' value for the selectbox on the right and click on the 'Update' button.
    8. Go to the Tools -> Layout Boxes Controller.
    9. Click on the 'Reset' button on the bottom.
    10. Enjoy.

You can't usually unzip files using your FTP program. Double-clicking in most FTP programs just re-uploads or re-downloads the file.

You can unzip the package on your local computer and upload the folder(s) and files to the server.

Another way (the way I do it) is to upload the zip file to where you want it and use your hosting account control panel's File Manager to extract the zip file.
