    Default Email Weirdness

    Hi All,
for no apparent reason (ie. I have done nothing to the site), my shop has stopped sending order and contact emails. The orders get processed fine, and appear in the admin area, but I no longer get an email. Contact Us emails are reported by the cart to have been sent successfully, but don't arrive. My host (eukhost - always been great with me) say its a scripting issue. emails sent to this address from elsewhere all arrive fine. I've checked the email acct on webmail (server end), and the mails never get there, either. As I say, I have changed nothing, the emails just stopped this weekend.
Cart is the current version, updated in October.
Does anyone recognise this? Can anyone tell me where to start looking?

    Thank you,

    Sean

    Standard host answer

ZenCart is not a mail server and only passes them off to the mail server provided by the host

If the email is passed to the mail server one needs to look there

You can track these for a time/until you get this squared and this will indicate that they were passed/sent to the mail server

Most mail boxes have a storage limit (in Megabytes) which you set when you set up that email address. If you've reached that limit then you won't get any more emails until you either fully download emails or else increase the limit per email box.

Perhaps the hosting has been upgraded or changed recently and you need to re-investigate the proper email protocol and related settings?

Some will use PHP w/ sendmail on the server or vice verse, and this does not produce a mail error for most mail functions within Zen Cart.

I'm having the same problem. Nothing has changed on my side either. Emails stopped working over the weekend.

Are the email addresses your site sends to based on your domain (hosting related) or are you sending them to an email address not based on your domain (not hosting related)?

If the latter then the server your site is on may have been blacklisted by anti-spam organisations, and this would result in ISPs not accepting emails from your site.

Find out the shared ip address of your server, which should be in your web hosting control panel, and run it through spamhaus.org or spamcop.net to find out if the server is on any blacklists.

Ive had this problem before when using PHP email function on Zencart. I was using Zencart 1.38 and my hosting upgraded my PHP on my server to 5.212 which has a slight modification in it so it all stopped working.

Go to your email settings inside Zencart, and turn 'Email friendly error messages' to off. See if you get a message like 'cannot instantiate mail function'.....that will be the PHP error.

Basically to get around it I used SMTPAUTH instead with a proper email account, and it all works perfectly.
