    application error Permission set to 777 still not writable

    Hi Everyone,

    Pre-thanks to everyone on zen; coz I followed threads on forum and now i got my zen working on my own Windows box.

    Before I put on the site on the actual server; I'm thinking to test it again on my Linux server (another box) because the company's server is Linux. (I'd like to test it on a similar environment)

    However when I try to install zen on the Linux box. it says:

    cache = Unwriteable (chmod 777 read/write/execute)
    same errors for pub, images, media folder etc.

    So i followed zen tutes to change the permission to 777. And I can actually see the permission is changed via Filezilla.

    However when i go back to the installation progress again. It still shows the same thing. ><

    So I have no idea what to do now.

    My Server details are below:
    Webserver = Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu)
    HTTP Host = localhost
    Path_Translated = /var/www/zencart/zc_install/index.php(SCRIPT_FILENAME)
    Real Path = /var/www/zencart
    Server Free Disk Space = 65.07 GB
    PHP O/S = Linux
    PHP API Mode = apache2handler
    PHP Max Execution Time per page = 300

    Please help out.

    This would be a server thing and not something that ZenCart has any control over

    As you are sure that they are writeable you can try ignoring the warnings and continue with the install

    If you disconnect and reconnect, do the permissions still show as writable? Maybe the server is preventing you from setting the permissions, and FileZilla is only showing you what it *tried* to do.

    Well, the ZC installation cannot proceed if the files aren't writable by PHP, so you may have to talk to your hosting-company / server-admin for specific help.
    Zen Cart actually tests writing to the file before it displays that message. It's not just asking the filesystem about it ... it actually tries to write and verify. Your server is clearly not letting it do that.

    Ignore what you see with Filezilla... make the permission changes via your cPanel and all will be fine.

    thx everyone for reply.
    really appreciated.

    i got it working by asking a server guy help.

    it turned out really easy, the server does not support 777. so i gotta use 666 or 755.

    thx everyone
