Need some Header and Footer help please...

Hey all-

First post, but i'm sure it won't be my last. We are switching our ecommerce software from oscommerce to zencart, and I'm having some issues customizing my header and footer. It's pretty easy to do in OSC, but seems not as easy in Zen. I want the header to just be an image with menu hotspots that looks like the header of the main joomla site that we use. And the footer is just an image.

The A to Z site is not using Zen Cart, so its template is irrelevant.

How do you customize the header and footer in osC?
In Zen Cart, you would edit /includes/templates/your_template/common/tpl_header.php and tpl_footer.php.
You can move or delete any elements you want to, or add new ones. An image map style of navigation could be done easily.

ok cool... and thanks for the heads up on the a to z site. i thought that's what they used.

anyways, found how to add my graphics and image map, now need to figure out how to get rid of all the stuff there that i dont want... like:

Zencart logo
Background image thing
Category listings (dont need them across the top there as well as the side)
Sales store text thing
The blue text below that categories (EZPages:rivacy Notice:: etc)

I tried commenting it out on header file and it really screwed things up. So where is the proper place to go to remove/hide these items?

Categories-tabs and the ez-pages header menu can be turned off in Configuration > Layout Settings and > EZ-Page Settings.

The header background is in the stylesheet under #headerWrapper {}.

You seem to want to delete all standard header functions in favor of your image map, so you can try deleting the corresponding sections of tpl_header.php. Delete whole blocks, don't leave trailing bits.

Before you go any farther, read the tutorials about the template override system, and create a custom template folder by copying all /classic/ folders to your custom foldername. Keeping the /classic/ folders as original can be useful for troubleshooting, and protects your customizations from being erased when you update to a new version. The entire /classic/ folder will be replaced in an upgrade.

- admin -> configuration -> EZ-Pages Settings and turned it on. but footer (has 6 tabs) still doesnt show.. ???????

My webhoster upgraded to 1.39 version from 1.38 few months ago. Dont know when this problem started but I only noticed it last week. When I was with 1.38 version, the footer was definitely shows.

You also need to go in to admin/tools/ez-pages and make sure the status for footer is green.

You have some PHP error happening after the bestsellers sidebox finishes that is cutting off processing and output. The right sidebar does not even finish outputting, so the error is around there, not in the footer.

What myDebugxxx files do you have in your root /cacke/ folder? Post the latest one and that should give a clue to where the error is happening and what it is. Your Template Monster template was presumably written for v1.3.8 and might not be compatible with v1.3.9. It does modify a lot of unnecessary ciles, and one of them may have changed and now the old version in the template is not working with the new ones.

That refers to a problem while searching with the Developers Toolkit in admin. What we need is the last debug log that contains references to catalog operation. Probably the easiest way to do that is to bring up the storefront and navigate to a page that shows the problem. That should trigger a warning log for the relevant situation.

This indicates that you cannot access that PHP file from the DTK, which seems odd. I'm not sure what <a href='function.file'> is supposed to accomplish, though.
