Two customers contacted me in the last 24 hours stating they couldn't add items to their cart. I've also had some other e-mails over the past few weeks that I also think were related. They were receiving the following message:
'Cookie Usage: We have detected that your browser does not support cookies or they've been disabled.'
One customer is using Firefox, the other is IE8. Both are certain their cookies are enabled. They're successfully shopping on other websites.
I searched through the forum and found several threads on this issue but no definitive resolution.
One thread stated to change 'Force Cookie Use' from false to true in the admin->config->sessions.
I did that and the customer with IE8 can now add things to her cart. I'm waiting to hear back from the other one (hopefully the free shipping code I sent will get her to try again!)
My Question:
I'm extremely nervous to change any of these settings. I don't understand how I could override a setting the customer has specified in their own browser. Why is the default not 'True'? I'm running an upgraded 1.3.9h shop.
Business is strong and we're processing a ton of orders everyday. I would very much like it if Dr. Byte could tell me I'm not going to break my store by setting this parm to True :) What are the risks of changing this setting?
Thank you in advance.
Kathy
