bizarre problem with editing payment module in admin

I have a strange problem in the ADMIN page:
when I select MODULES - PAYMENT, I see nothing to the right of the Action column, no matter what I click on. I see everything as normal in the Shipping section and the info to the right of the Action column displays and changes as I select each option.
I am unable to edit the payment module options section. I hope my descrioption makes sense to someone. If not, please contact me.

I am using a new iMac, and have tried both safari and the latest firefox download with no differences. Help anyone?

and I am using the latest zencart version. Everything else appears to be fine.

Check that you do not have any duplicate files or backup files in the:
/includes/modules/payment

directory that may be causing this ...

Check your /cache directory for debug logs that may help identify the problem ...

Would it set me back to normal if I copied all of the files from the includes/modules/payment folder in the zen-cart-v1.3.9h-full-fileset-10262010 to my similarly named location? I haven't made any modifications in those files as far as I can recall and have never added any either. I was using the original visa/mastercard offline processing as bundled with previous versions. I went from 1.3.9D to F, and then to G, then H. The last time I looked at the payment module was after the upgrade to F, and I think ( I think) it was in this condition at that point, but haven't had reason to make any changes there until now.

That should work, if you have not changed any of those files and are just using the payment methods that came with Zen Cart ...

That didn't work, but I found the log files and they kept referring to purchaseorders.php which I recall had something to do with super orders. i removed the purchaseorders.php file and all is well now.
