Scrolling Featured: Deprecated 'marquee' tag

Hi...

Just Dled and installed the Scrolling Featured module into a 1.3.8A cart.

Was wondering: I've read that the 'marquee' tag is being phased out. Is using this mod a bad idea, then?

Also, I can't seem to get it to scroll horizontally. It displays two items at a time, when I change the direction. Additionally, every two items, there is an unusually large amount of space, when left in the default scroll up setting.

Any ideas? I've read marquee is distracting, and was deprecated along with 'blink' because it's not readable.

Also, does this tag work with ALL browsers? Is there another mod using JS that works better?
