I was having that exact issue. Product info disappearing. It was a fresh new install except for adding a template.

On my hosting account "GoDaddy" I upgraded from php4.x to php5.x.

Works perfectly now!!

I thought switching my php version would be hard but it was as simple as selecting a radio button. Yay!!
