New Zenner

Please accept my apology in advance, I am very new to this.

I followed the tutorial and set all my permissions and have even double-checked them all. However, after using three different browsers, cannot get to the welcome screen and instead get a 404 error.

I have a couple of questions...the tutorial says that the path should be www.domain.com/catalog

Is catalog the folder where the files went into under public_html?
To clarify, the tutorial said that the file did not need to be named catalog or I didn't even require anything.

I don't know, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

By the way, my host is godaddy and my website is www.rainenjewelry.com.

Re: New Zenner

Where did you install the files to?
was it public-html or public-html/catalog?
As you already have files in your public-html folder the browser will auto go to that index file!
If you want zen to be the "front" end of you site (as it is designed to be) you need to install it public html and rename the excisting index file to something else
if you want the address of your store to be yoursite.com/catalog then install all the files into the public-html/catalog folder
hope that helps

Re: New Zenner

Thanks for getting back to me.

I installed it into public_html/catalog

To be more specific, it goes public_html/catalog and then are the files: admin, cache, docs, download, editors, etc.

Also, I don't have anything else in my public_html folder.

Re: New Zenner

A 404 error isn't about permissions. It means the file the browser is looking for (in this case, index.php) isn't there.

How did you install Zencart ?

Many people here will recommend that you not use GoDaddy for a Zencart site. Their servers tend to be oversold and your site can be slow as a result.

I followed the guide that came with the software.

Where should index.php be?

Re: New Zenner

In the same place as all of the ZC folders (admin, cache, docs, download, editors, etc.), in your case, /public_html/catalog/.

Re: New Zenner

Maybe he meant there were no other *folders* in /public_html/... Yes, there is a whole HTML site there (many of the ZC links point to its pages and not to ZC pages).

Re: New Zenner

Hi Tim

1) How did you upload it
2) Can you provide a screen shot of your public_html/catalog folder from your filemanager so we can see what is inside it,
3) Did you actually install it, by running the install script? or have you just uploaded it to the folder
4) You didn't perchance use the auto-install script Go Daddy offers?

I searched for godaddy in advanced search, searching titles only, and got 217 results.

Still keen on godaddy?

Re: New Zenner

Yeah, I'm a little embarrassed as I had figured this out too after posting. I guess I really should research better before wasting other's time. I guess the whole css thing is a little intimidating.

But thanks for everyone's input here and you won't hear from me again unless I am in complete dire straits.
