Email notification before checkout

My client doesn't have anything in stock (they are rare), so after customers order something, he needs to go checking if he is able to get them. That means he needs to get an email notification after customers add all items in shopping cart.

(We can inform customers do not check-out before the order is reviewed and proven, so don't need a program to disable the checkout function. Instead, just need an email notification of all the items added in shopping cart before customers click "confirm the order")

Any idea?

Clone an appropriate shipping module maybe money order
Craft text that indicates that they are not paying but submitting an order for approval or??

Good point.
But eventually customers need to be able to pay online. is it feasible? Suppose Zen cart doesn't allow to change payment method.

You might have a look at the Purchase order 3rd party module as orders and payment are discrete operations with it by necessity

But I plan to add some php code in confirmation Method under Paypal module.

Fetch data from customers_basket table, then send data in email by using zen_mail();

Do you think it will harm anything?

based on the nopurchase module of mailbeez you could build a solution to send a mail with the cart content e.g 1 hr after last activity.
