Default Meta tags with individual products-my problems

I've attempted to find answer to my problem with no luck. I'm not the webmaster but owner of site who does all text, attributes, meta tags and descriptions, and etc. etc.. Using v1.3.9h updated from version from September 21, 2010.

    My problem:
    Category meta tags/descriptions are fine
    Sub-categories are fine
Individual products are becoming my curse.

Individual key words/tags for products are fine and I enable Product Name and Title/Tag options, but don't know if that is correct combination. Sometimes keywords change with in sub-category's and are replaced with main category names...left over problem from webmasters let go in Nov...LONG UGLY STORY.

Could someone please tell me, viewed the meta tag page from FAQs, how to make sure ALL *main and sub* meta tags/descr remain intact when doing individual products.? Also, what options should be chosen for individual or are Product Name and Title/Tag enough? Don't want price on the page so left that unchecked.

Thank you for any/all assistance. I've done all products 4 times and still not sure they are correct. One day a product is top of search and next day it isn't but another one of my products with different options choices is there. I'M SO CONFUSED but willing to learn and do whatever is necessary to put myself back at the store of my industry online.

    Thank you,

Ideally you will set a proper title (this is the only part that helps you rank in this area). It should be short, 65 characters or less, relevant and none spammy.

The Meta description should be relevant and moving... this is the text that will hopefully engage searchers and get them to click in from the search results. Not more than 250 characters of natural text.

The Meta keywords aren't used anymore and you can safely leave them blank. If you do use it, use only 10 keywords or less, comma separated and very relevant. No caps or special characters.

So once these are complete the proper settings would be as follows:

    Product Name: No
    Title: Yes
Model: No ! Unless it is a search phrase such as in electronics
    Price: No
Title/Tagline: No because it dilutes your title's relevancy and duplicates across many pages

Thank you so much for your reply! I worked until 3 AM this morning attempting to work all angles on my problem. Had everything just as you stated except for Title/Tag. Will remove those ASAP. Now the search engines will pick up my info correctly without all the run over verbiage.

Thanks again from person who has no html knowledge except that picked up doing text, graphics, easy commands such as font, center, u, <img...the usual easy stuff. Gotten brave with this 2nd Zen Cart and going into admin to make changes I know are needed.

If you could tell me why Yahoo is only indexing "gifts and gift" for my site and ranking them 3rd it would be a blessing. I just don't get it. Site is verified, they have all pages indexed????

mprough, I need one more piece of information. Everything is going OK with individual meta info. You stated some search engines don't use INDIVIDUAL PRODUCT META KEYWORDS. Since I already had half of them done all I had to do was clean out some to keep within range of 8 to 10.

My question becomes: when searching and one puts necklace in browser some SE will not pull up necklaces. This has been an on going issue with my business with numerous products. So, in keywords I put necklaces, gifts, gift and in meta description it reads necklace and gift would they not index me?

Easier way for me to show:

INDIVIDUAL PRODUCT META KEYWORDS: flute, flutist, gift, gifts, necklaces, rhinestones, silver, swarovski, crystals

INDIVIDUAL PRODUCT META DESCRIPTION: (faking this) Lovely silver flute necklace crafted in blue Swarovski crystal rhinestones. A wonderful gift for that special flutist in your life.

Hope this makes sense and if anyone else has the answer please feel free to jump in.

    Thanks,
