    Default Problem with tax setup

    Dear Zen Friends,
    I have read all the FAQ and gone step by step carefully over setting up the tax settings for my store. I have read all the available links I could find on how to set up taxes in my Zen store. For some reason, the tax does not calculate for the zone I need taxed, which is MO. The tax is omitted (the field is left blank) when I am doing a test run in the shopping cart (I am in the MO zone so that should work for me while testing? right? Also, my MO customers do not; but, should have taxes added into their orders.

    I am running Zen cart 1.3.8a I have not done any add-ons or updates to my cart, which was installed in about March of 2010.

    Tax settings in my cart
    Country/Zone: United States
    Basis of Product Tax: Store (I had billing, but that did not work either)
    Basis of Shipping Tax: Shipping (I am not sure this is what I should have)
    Display Prices With Tax: False
    Display Prices With Tax-Admin: False

    The class of taxes: Taxable goods
    Rate that I created (Tax Rate): 7.575%

    Then I have gone in and reset Admin > Catalog > Category/Products > Tax Class:Taxable Goods for each item. Taxes still did not run.

    I am a fairly new store and still a novice with Zen cart. Some of the items were working (I thought) until I tried to correct one of the kits that was not displaying a tax and now none of them work. I tried the default on all new items setting, but that did not work...Also, I did the edit layout of Product Type General set Product Price "Tax Class - When Adding New Products = 1. Then, I then went in and reset every item under Admin > Cataloge > Catagories/Products > Tax Class: Taxable Goods. That did not work either. I then reset them all again when I put the default back to "0". Also, I cleared all the zen cookies in my browser.

    I would greatly appreciate any insight on the problem. I am probably not seeing something really obvious. Thnx.

    Dear Fellow Zennonians,
    I found the mistake! The error was not in the configuration of the tax settings (which I did correctly); but, in the test account information that I had set up for my store. I did not have the "state field" for the account info configured correctly, originally. Therefore, when I created my account, I did not have MO selected and that is the trigger for the correct zone for the taxes. After I fixed my account info, the taxes ran beautifully in the test account, as they should. I know that is ridiculously simple. Sometimes it is the easy things that trip us up.

    Hopefully, I found the answer before someone spent their time and effort on my problem. Sometimes prayer and a good night's sleep works wonders.
