Default Override not working for sidebox titles

I am a Zen Cart newbie.

I have followed the instructions at:

    https://www.zen-cart.com/tutorials/i...hp?article=134

creating a new folder in the correct directory, copying the english.php file into the new folder and then amending the english.php file in the new folder in order to change the Titles on certain side boxes.

The changes are not relected on my website. However following further tests I can see that the software will apply the title changes if I edit the original english.php file which remains in its original location.

This is fine so far as producing results on the site now but I am concerned that if I do not get this right now I will pay at a later date when upgrading the software.

Is it me; Have I missed something obvious? Is there some sort of override setting in Admin that I need to select?

Using Zen Cart 1.3.9 on a GoDaddy hosting service.

    With thanks

The changes pretty much have to work if you're putting the english.php file in the proper folder (includes/languages/YOUR_TEMPLATE) and you have selected your custom template in Admin - Tools - Template Selection.

    Hi stevesh,

    Thanks for replying.

I think this has to be me. I must have missed something!

In my Admin/Tools/Template selection I see one Default Template Language for Classic Contemporary Green in the Classic Template Directory.

Should I have created an additional template language?

    No. Creating a new template requires that you create a includes/templates/CUSTOM folder (where CUSTOM is the name of your template) and place a copy of template_info.php in that folder which has been edited to include your template name. You can copy the template_info.php file from includes/templates/classic to your custom folder and edit this line to the name of your template: $template_name = 'Classic Contemporary Green';

Zencart looks in all the folders under includes/templates for that file to populate the dropdown in Admin - Tools - Template Selection.

    Hi Steve,

That's done the trick. Now I can edit the custom/english.php file and see the chnages come thro on the website.

Had to Reset the layout boxes controller and unfortunately don't have the Classic Contemporary Green look any more! Bit more effort required to tidy it all up again.

Have I produced the results you would have expected.

    Thanks in advance,
    P

If you want to start your custom template from the Classic look, you need to copy all files in /classic/ folders to your new template folders. Then you can edit from there.

    Terrific Guys!

Here I am sitting in good old Whaley Bridge just outside Manchester, UK thinking I'd got myself into a right mess and wondering why I'd bothered.

Thanks a million all for your assistance. Makes learning a fun experience.

    Regards, P

I do not believe that gjh42 meant that literally, it sould read more along the lines of

If you want to start your custom template from the Classic look, you need to copy any file you need to edit into the /classic/ folders to your new template folders. Then you can edit from there.

Reason is that when you have to upgrade, only those files you actually eidited will need to be checked
