Multiple images won't display

When product info is displayed on main page, only get one image, though I have several to display.

Have followed the naming convention. fred.jpg, fred_01.jpg, fred_02.jpg. Images are all in same directory. store/images Have set
Configuration - Images - Product Info - Number of Additional Images per Row to 1

,in case it was a matter of dimensions, had it set to 3 when first noticed the issue.

Set Product Type Info Page Layout options :: Product - General - Show Product Additional Images to 1 (true)

Still get only one image. What did I miss?

Just installed image handler. Began using it and issue disappeared. Still don't understand what I did or did not do. But no longer an issue. For now.....
