Default Keep Cart - question on functionality

I am looking for a way where users can have almost a 'standing order' or 'favourites' for their next order. So this week they order a, b and c and they want the same next week and the week after but they may want to add 'd' one week or maybe 'd and e' and remove 'c'.

Keep Cart sounds like a solution but PRESUMABLY when they place the order the cookie is removed. Do I understand that correctly?

OR am I WAY off the mark here?

    Thanks

Currently, the customer's cart is stored in the tables:
    customers_basket
    customers_basket_attributes

and when an order is complete, the records are removed for the customer ...

There are a couple of ways to approach this ...

1 Never empty the cart - draw back being it is always the last order that they made or last cart that they saved

2 Rebuild cart from a previous order ... where you should give an option to combine current cart that they have with a previous order

Others have asked for a method to remake the cart from a previous order but I don't recall that anyone has succeeded in writing this ...

This is not difficult to write, but it can be time consuming ...

There is a very reasonably priced commercial mod for this, it expands the Quick Reorder mod in the downloads and works very well. The customer can reorder the exact products from any previous orders, even with attributes, and from there they can add or delete items before checking out.

Reasonably priced is a relative term... It's a shame "Quick Reorder" has been taken into the commercial domain.

    It's an interesting approach though.

Well, it's been considerably extended and the tech support is immediate and thorough, phenomenal really. Yes, reasonably priced is relative, but 25 bucks isn't much by most people's standards and it's well worth it if you need that functionality to run a successful venture.

Can I just say thanks Ajeh. Motivated by the spirit of open source I have started writing my first PHP program and have the design in my head. It's slow going as I am having to learn syntax at the same time, but I reckon I am about 20% of the way to a working program.

When complete and I am happy it's reliable I plan on making it available to interested parties through the forum.

    Fingers-crossed while I work on.

I have a 'working' version now installed on a test server. It's at http://g.mayfield.it/cart1-3-9h/

If you want to take a look and comment I would more than welcome any input. The place to start would be the help button in the favourites sidebox. It is a test system, although it's a 99% copy of a live server without any real payment modules so any orders placed will be ignored and the live server doesn't deliver outside the Derby area anyway.

    I don't get it ...

Once the orders are placed, how do I see my Favorites for re-ordering?
