Hi, I wanted to ask if after someone send a message using contact_us page, does this someone receive a copy of the message or any type of email that says "thanks for contacting us today"?

No. They see a message on-screen, but no email.
You don't want it to send an email because if it did then spammers would abuse the form to send messages to all their friends..
