Tax calculated but not added to total

As the title says. When testing the ordering everything seems to work fine except that while the tax (12% HST) is calculated and shows the customer and myself what the tax is, it is not added to the total for the order.

I did do a search but didn't come across anything and have looked through the admin options. I figure it's a setting I missed but I am still waiting for my book to come in the mail. But in the meantime I would like to get this fixed.

Everything seems alright except the calculated HST tax is not added to the total.

The prices mentioned above the tax (sub-total, per item) are actually including taxes. This is just the way Zen-Cart shows the pricing by default.

For my website, we chose to leave out the taxes in this example, because it may be confusing for the buyer.

Um ... not necessarily.

IF you have your store configured to include taxes in prices, then yes you're correct.
But, by default, Zen Cart is NOT configured to include taxes in prices.

That subtotal is without taxes, I only added 1 item and that item is $5.00

So $5.00 (1 item @ $5.00) + $2.50 (shipping) + $0.60 (12% Tax) = $8.10 not $7.50. So you can see the problem I am having. I know it must be something simple that I haven't done but be damned if I can figure it out at the moment.

It was set to false, I just now set it to true to test it out and no change.

I assume that that is the switch to have the tax added to the price, so instead of seeing an item for $75, it would display as $84.

That "Display Prices With Tax" switch, if enabled, tells Zen Cart to treat prices as already INCLUDING tax. Thus, the only thing it does for taxation is display the backward-calculated amount of tax contained in the purchase at checkout.
If set to false, which is the default, it works by treating all prices as needing tax added to the sale, and usually shows up as another subtotal below shipping, much like your screenshot shows. But this subtotal IS then normally added and makes up part of the final total purchase price.

Go to Admin->Modules->Order Totals->ot_tax. What are the options set to?

Okay.

What are all your settings set to under Admin->Configuration->My Store? (I don't need the store name or address-and-phone). But everything else would be useful.

"Country 38" is wrong. It should say "Canada", not "38"

I'm puzzled by why yours says the internal number instead of the display name like it should.

So, how did you change it? Did you have a pulldown to choose from? Or just a field to enter the name instead of the number?

Yes, there was a pulldown. I selected Canada and it was ok after that. Don't know why it had 38 to begin with.

Finally got it working, boy what a pain in the .... I had to go over your main instructions about 6 times to figure out what was going wrong.

Seems I was skipping the step of creating Zones in the first place:
Location/Taxes --> Zones

Proceeding from there to your step 2 got me through the rest of it and got my taxes working properly.

I have the (maybe) same problem. I can't tell if the tax is being calculated.

Sub-Total: $56.37
Sales Tax: $0.00 should be $1.74 - 4.7%
Total: $56.37

I've checked everything (I think) that is in the above post - still doesn't post the tax. Country = US, I even created a new Zone "ElPaso County" EPC, set definitions,
1 Taxable Goods EPC 4.90% ElPaso sales tax 4.9%
Every product is Tax Class;Taxable Goods.
