extra space in category listing

hi
have been around and around the php and css and just cannot figure where the extra space is coming from, (shown in pink in the jpg)!
I'm looking to remove it, and also add a <br /> above the price to drop the price/qty/add button down a little if the add button shifts up as a result

any clues?
