    Default Meta tag question

My firend sent me the following information on SEO stuff:

"My company recommends the page title be 65 characters or less, the seo description be 160 characters or less, and the SEO keywords be 175 or less".

I'm trying to figure this all out. When I look at my home page page source (attached below) I see in the "Title" that ZenCart has combined my Page Title and my Site Tagline from my Meta_tags.php File (Also attached below). So my "Title" now exceeds the 65 characters even though it does not in my meta_tag file. Is that a problem? If so, what should I do?

Also, my "Keyword" and "Description" on the home page page source has just taken the keywords from all my categories and combined them, so I am about 900 characters instead of the recommended 175 or less. How do I fix that?

Also on the topic of meta tags, when I am using ZenCart meta tags in my admin pages, when I have similar products, is it ok to repeat the same mega tag title, keywords and description for each item in the same category? To do each one different would be a huge amount of work.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Regards,

    Garry

    // Custom Keywords

If you setup your meta_tags.php correctly you should be able to only show your custom meta data on the home page.

Meta Data is a whole animal by itself. I don't think Zen Cart forum will have enough information on SEO.

The numbers your friend gave you should be 60, 160 and no more than 250. That does apply for home page ONLY. Now this doesn't mean anything longer than that will hurt you, but most SE will truncate the result after these number so if you are trying to sell your store in the description you want to do try and do it within these limits.

Think of these Meta Data number as buying a 30 second Super Bowl Commercial, you want to complete your add within the 30seconds.

Meta Data are per/page, so having duplicate Meta Data is not good, especially after Google latest algorithm change. EVERY page should have unique content, including meta data.

There are few marketers that suggest no limit on the Meta Data size (Only on inner pages), this doesn't mean stuffing keywords. After all the 3-4% KI rule still applies as Meta Data are considered part of the page.

Simply, you should have unique Meta Data on every page, and without unique content you will not get any good results.

    Hi

I am currently doing keyword research and want to ask what is probably a silly question.... When listing keywords, if you are list an exact phrase do you have to list the "s either side of the word or just the text as normal with a comma after.

    i.e.

    Wedding accessories,table confetti,"pink & white table confetti",table crystals

    Wedding accessories,table confetti,pink & white table confetti,table crystals

    Hope this makes sense!

    Thanks

    You don't need quotes.

The comma is what tells the search engine when the keyword(s) ends.

Most SE don't consider the keyword tag.

For all other tags: pages that have the exact long tail keyword will show first in the result, BUT even if you have the keywords in your page not in the order the customer search for you still have a good chance of showing up in the result, unless the search had a ".

No matter what you. Please have some content on the page.
