Since we've been doing business, both UPS and Fedex charge a fee per box if a customer (or us), calls in and changes the delivery address of a package. Normally it's around $11 a box. This doesn't happen often but lately, it's happening more. Today, it was a $44 charge because the order had 4 boxes in it. A customer called to change the delivery address to their home instead of their office.
I have called both UPS and Fedex and both said they could not "block" this feature. I have also had both companies "auto correct" an address and charge the fee. When contacting the customer, they say the original address given is correct but according to UPS and Fedex, it needed to be changed for some reason.
With the down economy, these "hits" are becoming harder to take (especially at $44 today). Is there a way to charge the buyer if it is they who make the change? For security, I only see the last 4 digits of the cc # and exp date so I can't bill them after the sale.
Is anyone else having this issue? If so, how are you handling it? Like I said, in the past, a couple charges a month weren't going to break me but now that orders are getting larger (ie: more boxes per order), this means more charges per order.
Thanks for any ideas you may have.
