    Default beginner's installation problems

    Hi everyone

I am trying to install 1.3.9. and I have hit a brick wall which is extremely frustrating and I cannot solve the problem.
I have uploaded the files via Filezilla, carefully doing everything that is asked and when I want to install I get the following message appearing.

Hello. Thank you for loading Zen Cart™.
You are seeing this page for one or more reasons:

    1. This is your first time using Zen Cart™ and you haven't yet completed the normal Installation procedure.
If this is the case for you, you will need to upload the "zc_install" folder using your FTP program, and then run zc_install/index.php via your browser (or reload this page to see a link to it).

    2. Your /includes/configure.php and/or /admin/includes/configure.php file contains invalid path information and/or invalid database-connection information.
If you recently edited your configure.php files for any reason, or maybe moved your site to a different folder or different server, then you'll need to review and update all your settings to the correct values for your server.
See the Online FAQ and Tutorials area on the Zen Cart™ website for assistance.

Now I have read the posts from one member regarding the same problem and the reply to that person is check no. 2 out.
I have checked all day today and have now being trying to install it for about 12 hours now and I have a very sore head and my kids are now scared of me!
I have tried to install it about 20 times and made all the changes and still nothing.
I did notice that the file permissions on the files other than those I was told to change are set at 660 or 664 and dont know if I should change them all to 644 as recommended in the tutorial.

Can anyone please help a total beginner out in easy to understand language.

    Thanks

    Mike

After you upload the files go to:

    http://www.your web site url.com/zc_install

    Thanks,

If you haven't installed Zencart yet, you're supposed to see that message. There should be a link in #1 to start installation. If not, you may have not uploaded all the files.

The seven minute rule got me.

    Try my method:

Unzip the Zencart zip file on your local computer.

Rezip the folders and files to remove the zen-cart-v1.3.9h-full-fileset-10262010 folder, and name that zip file something like zencart1.3.9h_install.zip.

Upload that file to the directory where you want to install Zencart (usually the root (top) directory of your site).

Go to your hosting account's File Manager, navigate to the directory where that file is, and use the Extract button to unzip the files - 2 seconds, and all your file permissions should be right for installation.

Then just point your browser to yoursite.com and you'll see that page again, but there will be a link to start installation in #1.

Also, before installing Zen Cart you will need to manually create a database. This can be done through the Control Panel of your Hosting account.

Make note of this information as you will need it for the install.
    - database server (usually 'localhost' on a Linux Server)
    - database name
    - database username
    - database password

    Right guys

    Thanks for all your replys

The database was set up -it is a mysql3 database and I know the name, password etc and have access to it.
I tried the zip method as mentioned, no luck.
When I click on the link on #1 it comes up with a page not found.
I have uploaded all the files from the Zencart folder in a folder called catalog.
When I try to install via www.yourname.co.uk/catalog I am still getting the first message that I originally posted and I am none the wiser, just more frustrated than ever before.
Unfortunately my mate who is a bit of a zen guru is not available due to ill health.

    Any further advice for me!

    Mike

What happens when you go to: www.yourname.co.uk/catalog/zc_install/
