    help question Renaming a template

I started with the Classic template and made a ton of changes but it's still called "Classic". I am wondering if I should have renamed it, and if so, can I still do that or is it a recipe for disaster?

Yes, you should have made your own templates and overrides directories ...

What you can do is rename all of the current directories for:
    /classic

    to your own template name:
    /your_new_template_name

    customize the file:
    /includes/templates/your_new_template_name/template_info.php

then, once all of the files are in the new directories for your new template, you should be able to reload the original /classic and all of its files to the server so that you now have a clean Classic Template and your own customized template ...

Be sure to backup your database and your site before making these changes and straightening out your files and directories ...

Yes, you can and should rename or copy all of the /classic/ folders to /your_template/ (whatever name you want). Also edit the template_info.php file to reflect your custom info and name.

It would then be helpful to copy in a set of /classic/ folders & files from a fresh set of Zen Cart files (same version as yours) so that you have a functioning Classic template for testing against.

Looks like Linda typed faster than I did... :)

Thank you both. Wish me luck! Files are backed up and I'm ready to try this.

OK, I renamed the classic folder to a new name and edited the template_info.php. Clearly I missed something because I lost all of my new CSS changes. What other file or folder do I need to edit?

I guess I'm missing this: when you say rename "ALL of the current directories" I'm clearly missing something.

    Thanks again.

Did you then go to the Tools ... Template Selection ... and select your new Template?

Next, did you go to the Tools ... Layout Boxes Controller ... and configure it for your sideboxes that you want to use?

Which /classic/ folders did you rename? Aside from
    /includes/templates/classic/
    there should be at least
    /includes/languages/classic/
    /includes/languages/english/classic/
and others if you have certain mods installed.

Well, duh...I didn't reselect the new template name. Still, there is only the shell and I clearly have a lot of adjustments to make. I made a lot of customizations that disappeared. I appreciate your help.

If you put all of your customizations in /classic/ folders, and copied/renamed ALL of the /classic/ folders, your customizations will come over without redoing them.

In your stylesheet, are you referring to background images and the like with full paths that perhaps have 'classic' in them?

What's your URL? We could have a quick look then and see what's missing.
