It will be easiest to use the Zen Cart home page, with the specific content in define_main_page.php. This will automatically have the Zen Cart header and footer navigation elements.

What about the footer, can it be done that way. All the zencart templates i have seen so far have only a horizontal footer and not a vertical footer.

The Ezpages Footer Columns mod will let you build most any kind of footer layout with a little ingenuity.
