Config options question

I have learned to add products. I removed my side margin clutter and I did a few other things.

1) I am not able to find a way to remove a product. I can deactivate it but not remove it.

2) My product listing shows quantity available. I went to config>product listing. I clicked "display product quantity" which is set at "0". I changed it to "1". Either way it still shows quantity. How do I remove that display.

3) To see if I was understanding the process, at config>product listing, I clicked "display product image" which is set to "1". I changed it to "0". Either way my product image shows. So, apparently I do not understand the process here. Any help will be appreciated.

Great questions - let's see if I can answer them for you:

1) I am not able to find a way to remove a product. I can deactivate it but not remove it.

To delete a product from your Zen Cart store catalog:

1. Log in to your Zen Cart store Admin.
2. From the Catalog menu, select Categories/Products.
3. Locate the category of the product that you wish to delete.
4. Next to the product you wish to delete, click the X (delete) icon.

5. In the next screen you will be asked ‘Are you sure?’ together with a list of the category or categories the product is listed in. If the product selected has not been linked to appear in more than one category, click the Delete button.


If the product has been linked to appear in more than one category, they are shown (as below). The master category (the ‘owner’ category) is shown in red. To delete the product completely (ie from all categories), click the Delete button.


However, if you are looking to delete the product from the master category but keep the product in another category you will first need to change the master category. So, in the example above, the product ‘Under Siege Linked’ would first need to be set so that the ‘Big Linked’ category is the master category to allow the product to be deleted from the ‘DVD Movies > Action’ category only.

Note: If you are looking to remove a product from a category, rather than delete a product, try using the Multiple Categories Link Manager instead.

In Zen Cart Product Listing refers to the category page. I could be wrong, but I think you may be looking to remove the quantity available from the product info page instead.

To add or remove the Units in Stock from the product info page:

1. Log in to your Zen Cart store Admin
2. From the Catalog menu, select Product Types.
3. Select the relevant product type, in most cases this will be Product – General, and click the Edit Layout button.

4. Select the Show Quantity in Stock setting.

5. From the drop down menu, select either False (to remove) or True (to display) the Quantity in Stock (Units in Stock) in the product details set on the Product Info page. Click the Update button to save your setting.

Again, we just need to be using the same terminology. Is it the product page itself, the category page, or one of the other listing pages like featured or specials. They all have their own settings (in different places of the Zen Cart Admin too!) but once you know where to look it's really easy.

Let us know if you were talking about a different setting than the one I've covered above.

Thanks. You have been a big help. I was able to delete products. I was also able to eliminate the "quantity". I had tried on the wrong screen before. And as for displaying images, I can not display or not on the catagory view but I am still working on the individual product view.

It will take a lot of experimenting to get it straight but it is slowly becoming more clear.

If I am understanding now, I must choose either the catagory or the product first and then choose the option I want to change.

One more question, for now. Can I get rid of the "Powered by Zen Cart" banner. Its a big klinker in the middle of my art work. I managed to insert my own banner on top but I do not see a banner setting for the location that the Zen Cart banner is in.
