Default Re: Change the download directory to a different Server

I would rather not host my own web server and it's expensive to store 200GB on a hosting server.

The Thread mentioned seems to say that it could be done with custom coding.

Could some one give me some direction or give me a estimate on how much it would cost for them to supply me with the code?

As a business one should be making a profit from this and it would be an expense

You have control doing it on your own platform
You are at the mercy of the other server doing it your way
One must decide how professional they want to portray their business

By this do you suggest I would be best to Host the Site myself rather than use a hosting company?

No, unless you have to required uplink at your location it would be very slow. As even a broadband connection uploads at about one-tenth the download speed and uploading is the basic function of a web server

I was suggesting that for 200GB as you stated that a dedicated server would be inline for your purposes...

There is a "Add on Contribution" called "External Product Images" that allows the images to be stored Externally and Zen cart loads them when needed.
Its only some minor code changes.
Could something like that be done for the Download Files?

Not sure if I should ask this here but can anyone give me some links / Advice on a good source of Info on learning the zen cart structure and customising it?
(By this I don't mean the "e-Start Your Web Store with Zen Cart" - I have that - I'm after More Code customisation info)

Not if you want to control the security around who access the files and how many times they can access them, etc.
If you don't care if the files get stolen or "shared with all my friends", then you could write some code to change the place where the files are found and served.
But if you want to retain control over the files and prevent theft, you'll need to use the built-in methods, which require the files to exist on your server and be served to customers from your same server.

I'm the same boat. My web site hosting charges exorbitant amounts for storage. I have an Amazon S3 bucket with external images that I want to sell. Is there no good combination of externally served images and the protection of the built-in download tracking?
