Default Backing up PHP Zen Cart Files

I have designed a zencart site for a friend of mine. Getting ready to go live and realized I hadn't upgraded to the newest PHP so we are getting some errors when editing products and losing information. Wanting to upgrade to a newer level of PHP. I logged into the hosting site to do it and I have to first uninstall PHP 5.2.1 and make sure all files are backed up or they will be lost. What directories/files do I need to make sure are backed up so I don't lose all the work I've done. Any advice/help would be appreciated.

This sounds very strange. An upgrade to the version of PHP on your server shouldn't go anywhere near user files.

BUt in any case, not sure why running PHP 5.2.1 should be causing data loss. Which version of Zen Cart are you running? Why do you think that the version of PHP is causing the problem?

Using PHP version lower than 5.2.3, which 5.2.1 is, can be patched but upgrading php is a better option
