Flat Rate Cloned for Drop Off Help...need to add drop off options

Hello!

I have a customer that would like to add a shipping option: DROP OFF. Basically the business will drop off the customer's merchandise at 1 of 50 locations (all schools).

So I was thinking of cloning/modifying the FLAT RAT shipping module to include a dropdown of the 50 different schools, so once the customer chooses flat rate, they need select which school the drop off needs to be made at. My client does not want them to be able to type in the school but wants them to choose from a dropdown list.

This seems like a semi-easy task but I have been fumbling around in the flat rate module and my problem is that I do not know PHP very well so I do not know the code for the dropdown options.

EXAMPLE:

Flat Rate Drop Off

- School Name Option 1
- School Name Option 2
- ...etc.

Would anyone be able to help me figure out the code to insert an option like that within the FLAT RATE MODULE? Any help with this matter would be appreciated!!! Thanks so much!

Just to clear up any possible confusion...my client is the one dropping off the product, so neither UPS not USPS will be involved. They just need to know where to drop off the product.

If there is an easier way to go about this than modifying the FLAT RATE MODULE, I am open to any suggestions!

Is there a charge involved?

This is not so much a MODULE issue as it is a FUNCTION issue.

The dropdowns (eg: Countries and Zones) are a consequence of DATABASE information being parsed into the resultant page HTML.

You cannot achieve this simply by configuring the php. You may need additional database tables and/or fields.

It's quite complicated.

If you are NOT using the current countries and states tables to ship using conventional behaviour (shipping to countries), then you could adapt the countries/states tables and fields to your drop-zone names.

If no charge for the dropoff or the same charge ... you could probably just adapt Drbte's Multiple Store Pickup ...

Ah... Linda to the rescue!

A quick squizz at this mod and I think it solves the issue! Bit of tweaking required, but yes... a possible solution.

I will test that module as soon as I get a chance and report back. The module looks like it runs on 1.3.9 so I may need to upgrade, probably should anyway.

And as of right now, there should be no charge on these drop offs since the client visits these schools on occasion and will be doing the drops then. But you never know, they could change their minds later on down the road. In which case I am guessing this module will be useless that point, since it is based off store pickups. Guess I will have to dig more to see if that is even possible if it does get to the point where they want to charge.
