Changing file/directory permissions

I wish to install ZenCart on 4 different sites. The instructions talk about uploading via FTP the various file and then go to your server and change permissions to 777 for the folowing directories
cache
images
includes/languages/english/htm_includes
media
pub
admin/backups
admin/images/graphs

and the directories below and their subdirectories to 777

images/attributes
images/dvd
images/large
images/large/dvd
images/medium
images/upload

Rather than have to go through this whole process after I upload the files to each different sites why cant I make the changes to these files on my PC BEFORE I upload them to the 4 sites.

This to me seems the sensible way to do it but thewn I ask if that was the case then why were they not set that way at the start by ZenCart ?

Because your domain server has to be informed of file permissions. That can't happen until server has received
them.

Depends on server. Contact domain host for advice.
