Idea or Suggestion GV sent monetary value and not % as submitted

    Hi there

I really hope someone can help and I have been through the forums to find the answer to no avail.

To promote my site I sent my newsletter sign-ups a gv for 15% off their order total however, upon having my first customer use it, it has offered them £15.00 off.

I definately put 15% in 'amount' and it does say to do this however, on the email sent to customers, it comes up £15.... they are basically getting items for free... i need to remedy this asap.

So far, I have removed the gv module from admin panel however, the link in the email still allows them to claim this monies off... HELP!!

Is there a way to remove this balance from the customers that are signed up? Or, change it to show 15%?

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Regards
    Claire

Gift Certificates and Discount Coupons are two different things ...

Gift Certificates are for an Amount only ... and this is CASH that never expires until used by the customer ...

Discount Coupons can be for an Amount or a Percentage or Free Shipping ...

I think what you really need to do is make a Discount Coupon for 15% off and a 1 time use for the customer and send that out and not send out the Gift Certificate which would be an Amount for $15.00 rather than the Percentage you are trying to do ...

Hi Ajeh, thank you firstly for your time to respond. Yes I have done this already to inform my subscribers with a new discount code however, I read somewhere that you could put a % yet, looking into it, as you say, its monetary.

The problem I have now is all the subscribers with this monetary value and 3 orders that have come through, which of course I am honoring but they are paying nothing and I don't have contingency for this as I am starting out literally with no backing and just what money I am living off myself.. I couldnt possibly afford to pay for all subsribers ordering at zero value.. therefore, do you think that if I remove the module files that are on my server, that this would remove the GV balance in there account? Plus, even though ive disabled it from admin panel, the redemption link in my original email still processes the gv... thanks in advance, it;s much appreciate.

    Hi, Claire!

As Linda said, coupons and gift certificates are two different things. Are you sure you sent a gift certificate rather than a coupon? Usually, once a gift cert code has been redeemed, it can't be redeemed again, while coupons can be reused unless restricted by the number of times or the number of customers.

Unfortunately, removing the gift cert files from your server isn't going to remove gift cert balances. Those are stored in the database.

    Hope this helps. :)

Hey there Linda, thank you for your response. Yep, I defo sent GV cos i've got a tester set up to my email and it has the redemption link at the bottom. Learnt from this mistake now!!

I've just been looking through all the forum threads and I found this thread, which states the customer won't be able to go through with the purchase if done the necessary steps as stated. I have done this also and shall await to see if this remedies at the very least, further purchases using it!... I wish I could honor it to everyone but this is just not an option for me at the moment and therefore, I think perhaps at the risk of losing their potential custom in the future, it's worth disabling it..

Anyhow, it is much appreciated, from both of you and here is the link for anyone else that should need some clarification!

I shall report back should their be further problems but if you don't 'hear' from me again, then you can be reassured that this is the best solution to this problem.

Anyways, I'm gonna research php to see if can edit it somehow in the applicable files for a % to work.. though, it's not a necessity I guess.
